Hell's Aquarium... and a prehistoric Helm's Deep

Hell's Aquarium... and a prehistoric Helm's Deep
In this immediate sequel, a distant planet again served as a sanctuary for Mesozoic (and more ancient) species. These animals -- and apparently plants, too -- were revived by humans using technology far beyond mere genetic engineering and lab incubation. "Hell's Aquarium" here fed my fascination with prehistoric oceans.Casualties -- far amped in number over the first book in this series -- were jarringly morbid "just deserts," the result of attempts to treat an uncontrollable biome as a leisurely backdrop for profit. But some of the carnage also paralleled the horrors of real-life poaching. This novel was an enjoyable escape for me. Of course, I found it best to have read Book One beforehand. I will admit, hardest for me were the scenes of bullying and corporal discipline at school. Nonetheless, I stuck to the tale and ended up rewarded... in a grim manner of payback.I detected inspiration from the movies "Jurassic Park," "Jurassic World," and "Avatar." The novel even had its own Helm's Deep, of sorts.Incidentally, in a race hearkening to "Star Wars, Episode One," one racer had a conspicuous moniker, one that could be deemed politically incorrect. I chose to interpret it as an indictment of the elite among the story's space colonizers, who've neglected Earth's history and prioritized their drive to entertain.

The constant depridation of Mintari's dinosaurs by Amissa Triplehorn and her poacher army is upsetting the natural balance of the planet. The most populous and popular prey has been hunted to near extinction for its sail, used for dinner plates and wall art back on Cloventia. A broken food chain is starving the ecosystem. There are too many poachers, not enough Rangers. Even the best Rangers like "Jurassic Joe" Triplehorn, Amissa's brother, can't keep up with the killing. Piles of dead dinosaurs, left rotting in the sun, missing only a body part or two, feeds the carrion hunters. Joe is kept busy training new recruits getting home to Figaro and his fiery redhead girlfriend, Simone LaRue, only one day a week. He tries to stretch a week of life into one day with his family, but it's just not enough!

Figaro, learning to live as a human after living as a dinosaur for most of her 16 years. Even language is difficult after only howling and grunting. She was fluent in "Dino" but her mouth wasn't used to making the sounds of speech. She was very small for her age and was bullied mercilessly, especially by a "Rex" daughter. Her father was mayor and she and her pack found an easy target in Figaro. Anger and frustration were driving Figaro crazy! Not the greatest idea against a girl who though she was a dinosaur! Even Simone is feeling the separation from Joe, with her career on hiatus.

With an amazing cast of people and dinosaurs, a complex and moving storyline, set in a grand planet where the fiercest creatures ever lived are live again, and the words crafted by a master storyteller, this book is a fantastic read!

Meanwhile, Amissa and her "Hell Hunters" have attacked Dinovia and killed or wounded much of the population, destroying homes and defenses. Even Joe was wounded when Amissa shot him in the leg! Something has to give, and soon!

Enjoyable sequel to Arenson's book MINTARI. The plot is undeniably unique. Character development is a little weaker than in the previous novel. I am looking forward to reading Book 3 to see what type of mysteries it will hold. Very recommended novel ! ! !

This book was a little slow at times. It shows how people whose main interest is themselves and money can destroy an enviornment. I can't wait to find out what will happen next.

Enjoyed it very much. Lots of twists and turns. From Figaro and Anissa getting together to attack by the Rangers to Joe and Simone’s mind going underwater. No dull moments

An incredible continuation of a story unlike any I have read. Man cloned the dinosaurs and put them on their own planet. Humans only there to protect the dinosaurs, but one man turned against them, and now his daughter is out to destroy all of them. Joe Trplehorn is a ranger, and his daughter, Figaro, spent most of her childhood being raised by dinosaurs. Now he must save the creatures from extinction at the hands of his sister. Can't wait to see what happens next! Great read!

Waiting for the third book to come out. Can’t wait to see how it ends. Characters all dynamic and interesting. Stands up to my feelings I liked about Jurassic Park stories. Loved them and loved this series as well.
